Fair trade
Most of us have seen fair trade products on the shelves so what’s it all about then. Fair trade is a organized social movement aimed at alleviate poverty and promoting sustainability In developing countries, these countries supply us with sugar, coffee, tea, fresh fruit, cotton, wine, handicrafts, flowers.
Fair trades intention is to work with producers & workers and help them become secure and economically self sufficient, they do this by promoting fair prices and developing social and environmental standards. Ecogo believes in fair trade and will be providing many fair trade products in the very near future. |
Organic
Organic foods & products have been produced to a standard designed to keep production as natural as possible. Fewer, if any, chemicals are used and most pesticides are banned – when they are used they are very carefully controlled. Governing bodies such as the Soil association and the Henry Doubleday research foundation check & certify organic foods, educate the public, help farmers switch to organic farming and fund and carry out scientific research into all areas of organic farming.
Some of the advantages of organic foods include no hidden fats, sugars, salt are allowed to be added during the processing. Organic foods are not allowed to contain GM (or genetically modified) ingredients.
Eaters of organic foods say they taste better.
Some people buy organic meat as the animals are treated better and kept free from drugs like antibiotics and hormones. Living environments are considerably better for e.g. Chickens have to be free to scratch about and receive plenty of natural sunlight amongst other things. Ecogo will shortly be stocking a variety of organic products from chocolate to baby clothes. |
